Motorcycle Technician Job Posting

We are hiring a journeyman or 4th year apprentice to repair, customize, maintain, or overhaul Harley-Davidson motorcycles at our Fort McMurray dealership.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide prompt, dependable, high quality, motorcycle service to (internal & external) customers.
  2. Complete repair work within the scheduled or allotted time period.
  3. Continually improve time “efficiency” skills.
  4. Maintain productivity (time spent working on billable jobs).
  5. Experience with engine upgrades, customization, full service, and tire changes.
  6. Notify Service Writer/Manager of additional work needed or any delays in expected completion.
  7. After job is finished ensure proper completion and filing of paperwork.
  8. Keep work areas as clean as possible and assist others with maintaining shop cleanliness.
  9. Able to work in a team environment.
  10. Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications / Job Requirements

  1. Motorcycle Mechanic – 4th year apprentice or journeyman
  2. Basic and special tools.
  3. Valid class 6 motorcycle license
  4. DYNO experience an asset

 

Education

  1. Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Mechanic training is also an asset 
  2. Wage is based on experience

Voigt Harley-Davidson is looking for a self-motivated, well-organized individual to join our team.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.) Service Department Operations

  1. Assist in maintaining an efficient service department with a high degree of customer satisfaction.
  2. Accept customer motorcycles, describe problems and service needs, schedule work,
  3. Interview customers on their motorcycle concerns using the systematic approach for each issue.
  4. Estimate costs and completion times at point of sale. Clearly communicate quotes to customer.
  5. Follow up progress of each repair order and contact customers by phone regarding changes in the estimate or time promised.
  6. Assign jobs to technicians based on skill level and current resource utilization.
  7. Assist with labour quote estimates for internal and accident repairs; and follow-up with insurance companies, customers and accounting department ensuring payment and closure.
  8. Review work-in-progress to ensure quality and timeliness.
  9. Follow procedures for quick and efficient handling of warranty items.
  10. Determine correct part numbers on repair orders and assist the parts department with picking parts before job starts.
  11. Perform cashier functions, as needed.
  12. Stay current on service bulletin recalls and service promotions.
  13. Arrange initial PDI's (uncrating) of new motorcycle arrivals.
  14. Open & close all customer paid, warranty, and internal repair orders.
  15. Check all customer motorcycles for pending warranty recalls. Assist in preparation of warranty claims and recalls for submission to Harley-Davidson.
  16. Become familiar and efficient with DealverVu system for service and parts.
  17. Merchandising parts and accessories in the service reception area.
  18. Cold calls during off season to book repair work and upgrades.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

2.) Customer Service

  1. Greet customers immediately, in a courteous and friendly manner.
  2. Provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers
  3. Handle telephone transactions quickly, and courteously. Ensure all messages are returned.
  4. Sell additional services by pointing out accessories, service specials or additional items customer might be interested in purchasing.
  5. Handle customer complaints reasonably, showing empathy a positive attitude, and demonstrate our commitment to “Make Things Right”.
  6. Give special attention to repeat repairs to ensure the situation is corrected.
  7. Avoid making commitments which can not (or likely will not) be met. Set customers’ expectations to a level where they will likely be met.
  8. Complete follow-up contacts with customers within 1 week of completed service work.
  9. Document concerns and follow-up with resolution, if required.

3.) Commitments

  1. Treat all employees and customers fairly, courteously, and with dignity.
  2. Model superior customer service behavior for all interactions with customers and employees.
  3. Stay current on parts and pricing in order to provide customer with up-to-date product knowledge.
  4. Be honest and fair in all business dealings and focus on quality.
  5. Practice safe working methods and adhere to health and safety policy and procedures.
  6. Complete all service training courses by required deadlines and remain current with all service training provided.
  7. Maintain professional appearance, attitude and be prompt and available for flexible scheduling.

Qualifications & Job Requirements

Organizational abilities for a fast-paced environment.

 Outgoing, friendly personality and superior communication customer service skills with the ability to deal with customers tactfully and professional at all times.

Mechanical experience and the ability to operate a forklift are assets. 

 Knowledge and experience with servicing Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and other products sold by the dealership, or the ability to quickly learn about them.

 Experience with Point of Sale and Parts /Service management computer software or the ability to learn quickly.) Must have keyboarding skills.

 Valid driver’s license.

 Physical Demands

  1. Occasionally required to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and handle tools.
  2. Occasionally requires the ability to lift 40 pounds of material.
  3. Occasionally requires the ability to balance and push a 600lb+ motorcycle.

Working Conditions

  1. Is potentially exposed to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a motor vehicle service department.
  2. Occasionally, exposed to exhaust fumes or airborne other particles.
